At the Glowtime launch event, as expected, Apple announced four new iPhones: the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. While some hardware upgrades do come to the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus –– with a new camera alignment, claims of a better battery life, and a new Camera Capture –– the biggest upgrades have been announced for the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max smartphones.

The Pro models have the “biggest display ever on an iPhone”, with the Pro Max model now sporting a 6.9-inch display. The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are also powered by the new A18 Pro chipset that Apple claims is its “fastest chipset yet”. Apple has not disclosed the specifications, but it also claims that the 16 Pro models will have the longest battery life so far with promises of a 33-hour run time on a single charge. Even in the camera department, the Pro models have received a significant upgrade, with the main camera being bumped up to 48-megapixel this time.

The iPhone 16 Pro models introduce a new gold colour option and come with the highly anticipated Camera Control button. The button understands pressure and reacts differently based on how hard you press it. You can also scroll on the button to zoom in and out.

Apple also says that the Pro models are “built for durability”. The new iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max use a lightweight titanium design and next-generation Ceramic Shield, which, as per Apple, is twice as tough as any other smartphone glass. Additionally, addressing the heating issues on iPhones, Apple says it has improved the thermals on the Pro models with a new mechanical architecture that enhances heat dissipation, apparently resulting in up to 20 per cent better sustained performance.

With 2 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores, the A18 Pro delivers up to 15 per cent faster processing speed while consuming 20 per cent less energy. It also boasts next-gen machine learning accelerators, enhanced USB 3 speeds, and supports ProRes video recording for superior performance and efficiency.

The cameras also support 4K120 video recording. Additionally, the models introduce a new 48-megapixel ultra-wide camera with autofocus.
